2026 Fishing e-Calendar
FRIDAY MAY 08, 2020
Fishing is what NZers want to do as soon as they see a piece of coastline. Timing is more important than the state of the tide; it is when the moon is at a certain position.
From 1999, the beginning of the internet, we published the NZ, and a few years later the Ireland and Australian, Weather Almanacs.
It all started in the mid 1970s when we lived on the East Coast, fishing every day, following the Maori fishing calendar (and writings
of Bill Hohepa, NZ fishing personality), which turned out to be a universal system.
Fishing a
nd weather depend on the changing position of the moon. Just as the moon is in the same sky position 48-50 minutes later each succeeding day, so is the tide and any rain system.
As well as the weather almanac, we published the fishing calendar
through the early 2000s. When we decided to make the fishing information available online, we ceased publication of them.
This year, again, the reader will find not only the best bite times for each day, but also which coast to try. Reasons are also given. There is also king tide information.
